Meet Penelope

Breed: Andalusian
Color: Fleabitten Gray
Age: 12
Height: 16 hh
Fun Fact: Penelope loves to “cheer” on our riders during lessons!

Penelope is our striking Andalusian mare with a flair for drama and a heart full of love. The Andalusian breed dates back centuries and hails from the Iberian Peninsula, where they were prized as warhorses and ridden by nobility for their beauty, intelligence, and powerful movement. With her elegant build and bold spirit, Penelope carries that noble legacy proudly.

Before joining our herd, Penelope spent many years as a broodmare and has had several foals. Eventually, she found herself in a kill pen, but thanks to a rescue and rehabilitation effort, she was given a second chance at life. After her recovery, she made her way to Lakeview and we couldn't imagine our barn without her.

Penelope currently works in our Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy program and is in training to become one of our riding lesson horses. Her exuberant personality shines through every day—she’s vocal, expressive, and deeply connected to her herd (especially her best friend, Sienna). Penelope loves to stand at the fence and “cheer” for our riders during lessons, always ready with a whinny of encouragement.

Though she’s tall at 16 hands, Penelope doesn’t seem to realize her size—she’s kind, affectionate, and first to the fence when we have visitors. She’s a bright light in our pasture and a true testament to the power of second chances.
